Target 2.5: Maintain the genetic diversity in food production
By 2020, maintain the genetic diversity of seeds, cultivated plants and farmed and domesticated animals and their related wild species, including through soundly managed and diversified seed and plant banks at the national, regional and international levels, and promote access to and fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge, as internationally agreed.

The indicator shows how many plant and animal genetic resources are preserved in gene banks and other long-term facilities. The purpose is to safeguard genetic diversity, which is essential for future food production, breeding, and adaptation to challenges such as diseases and climate change. The figures cover both livestock breeds and plant genetic materials such as seeds and cuttings, reflecting Denmark’s contribution to conserving agricultural biodiversity.
