Feed, fertiliser and pesticides
What do Danish farm animals eat? How is the sale of nitrogen in mineral fertiliser developing, and which are the best-selling types of pesticides? On this page, you can find information about the production of feed as well as the sales of mineral fertiliser and pesticides.
Selected statistics on Feed, fertiliser and pesticides
Production of compound feed
It is a census where all companies producing compound feed stuff in Denmark delivers data to the statistics. At the moment 13 companies delivers data to the statistics. Until 2022, the part of the census that deals with the production of compound feed was a total count, while the composition of the compound feed was a sample and subsequent enumeration.
Total sales of primary nutrients in mineral fertiliser
The Economic Accounts for Agriculture consist of data on values of the agricultural production and intermediate consumption from many different statistics produced in Statistics Denmark. It is mainly statistics related to agriculture and the agricultural sector e.g.
Farm structure survey ( number of holdings and areas), Vegetable statistics (harvest results and stocks of crops), Animal statistics (livestock and livestock products), Intermediate Goods (feeding stuffs, fertilizers and pesticides), Accounts Statistics for Agriculture, Prices and price indices for Agriculture.
Data regarding the finance Act are used to the calculation of bank services and taxes. Other than that data from International trade is also used. Finally data from the Danish Agricultural Agency is used to the calculations on subsidies.
Total sales of pesticides
The sales statistics are compiled on the basis of primary data submitted by the Environmental Protection Agency, which collects information about the annual sales of pesticides from all the 116 producers and importers which have been approved by the Agency. The domestic production excludes exports. Subsequently, the data are summarised before being published. The statistics on the use of pesticides in crop farming are compiled on the basis of data reported by producers and importers. Only products which are used in field crops for combating weeds, diseases and vermin and for regulating plant growth are included. They are estimated to account for 88 per cent of the total sales of pesticides for crop protection. The products intended for other outdoor purposes (e.g. fruit growing and market gardens) are as far as possible excluded. The Environmental Protection Agency makes an assessment of the pesticides sold by crop type. Data on areas with the respective crops are extracted from the annual agricultural and horticultural census.

The Economic Accounts for Agriculture (EAA) illustrates the development in the economy in the agricultural sector and serves as input to the National Accounts. Economic Accounts for Agriculture exist back to 1935, but the statistics are in their present form comparable from 1990 onwards.
The purpose of the statistics is to shed light on the quantitative production of compound feed for livestock, as well as to calculate the total quantities of grain and feed materials used in compound feed. Feed materials are eg. oats or soybeans. The statistics shows which type of feed mixes are produced the most, and the development of feed mixes over time. The total quantities of compound feed and feed materials are used for calculations of The Economic Accounts for Agriculture (EAA). The statistics has been compiled since 1968, but in its current form is comparable from 1990 onwards.
The purpose of this statistic is to illuminate the sale and use of pesticides in agricultural crops. The statistics are used inter alia to assess the environmental and health risks associated with the use of pesticides. The statistics are comparable from 1981 onwards.
The purpose with the statistics on supply and use of cereals and feed is to show the annual use of feed for animals and the use cereals, which is a part of the calculations of the feed consumption. The feed consumption is also calculated after the origin of the feed, if is produced in Denmark or abroad. The statistics is also use for the calculations of the Economic Accounts for Agriculture. The supply and use of cereals and feed have been compiled since 1900, but data in its present form are comparable from 1990 and onwards.
