ICT usage in enterprises

These statistics show the development in the uptake and usage of ICT in private enterprises with at least ten employees. Find out which industries are using e-commerce and which industries employ the most ICT specialists.

‘ICT usage in enterprises’ has been carried out annually since 1998. From 2021, Statistics Denmark has made a survey looking into the ICT usage of small enterprises. In this context, small enterprises are enterprises with 5-9 employees.

Physical objects, e.g. measuring devices or machines, which are integrated with sensors, software and other technologies and which can exchange data with other devices over the Internet. The Internet of Things (IoT) is closely related to sensor technology that expands the ability to collect and respond to data from the objects connected in the network.

The survey covers enterprises in the private, non-financial urban industries with at least 10 full-time employees. In 2019 and 2021 the population also covers microenterprises with 5-9 full-time employees. The survey is based on questionnaire information from a sample of enterprises. The sample is stratified by industry groups and size (defined by number of full-time employees).

Information is reported digitally.

The survey covers enterprises in the private, non-financial urban industries with at least 10 full-time employees. The sample included 4,667 enterprises, and of these 3,523 units also extended to the 2022 sample, i.e. 75,5 percent of the sample in 2023 are repeats from last year. Net sample included 4,632 enterprises, and there were 4,557 responses. In the net sample, enterprises that are closed or bankrupt are deducted.

For the calculation of E-sales share of total revenue, information from the Business Register (ESR) is used. Enterprises e-purchases are calculated as a percentage of total purchases. Information about total purchase is obtained from General Enterprise Statistics.

Activities in small enterprises

The purpose of the statistics is to shed light on the activities e.g. the use of ICT in microenterprises, with 5-9 employees. The study focuses on topics with high topicality and attention among users, such as security measures and web sales. The content is replaced every year. The survey is developed in collaboration with users and has been carried out for the first time for 2021.

ICT Use in Enterprises

The purpose of the statistics is to shed light on the use of ICT in enterprises, including e-commerce and benefits/barriers to the use of ICT technologies. The survey is harmonized with the EU model questionnaire, which is used in most member states. The statistics form part of Statistics Denmark's focus on the information society. The survey has been carried out annually since 1998.

ICT-Expenditure in Enterprises

The purpose of the survey 'ICT expenditure' is to examine the extent of ICT expenditures in the private sector. The survey contributes to the description of the information society. The survey was conducted for the first time in autumn 2004.
