The statistics as an experimental statistics is not part of the official statistics program of Statistics Denmark. The statistics is experimental because it is the first time Statistics Denmark uses the large amounts of data in the AIS system (Automated Information System) and the methods for data treatment are still under development. The details in the presentation and the form of dissemination can change as Statistics Denmark receives feedback from users or during the continued development., Statistical presentation, The statistics is an index of the number of port calls to Danish ports and covers freight and container vessels. The statistics is made based on ship position data (AIS data) made available by the Danish Maritime Authority. The statistics is only published in the Statbank., Read more about statistical presentation, Statistical processing, AIS data is received in a continuous stream and registered daily. The process starts with a data reduction after which a representative arrival and departure observation is selected. Afterwards the ports are defined from the AIS-data after which ports and arrival/departure pairs representing a port call is matched., Finally tables, indices and seasonally adjustments are produces., Read more about statistical processing, Relevance, The statistics provides faster data on the activity in Danish ports and the possibility to cover more types of vessels compared to existing maritime statistics. The statistics is experimental and a part of this concept is to reveal relevance and user needs. Industry organisations have however expressed interest in the statistics., Read more about relevance, Accuracy and reliability, The precision of the statistics in terms of the development of the actual port calls in Danish ports and for freight and container vessels is relative high based on a comparison between the quarterly maritime statistics., The statistics is at the moment assessed to have a medium reliability since no revision analysis has been performed yet., Read more about accuracy and reliability, Timeliness and punctuality, The statistics is planned for publication approximately 10 days after the reference period., Read more about timeliness and punctuality, Comparability, Only few other countries uses AIS data to make maritime statistics since the statistics still is an experimental statistics without a fixed international methodology. Counties and municipalities, v3:2006

Name: , AMT_KOM_V3_2006 , Description: , Before 1970, Denmark was divided into approx. 1300 parish municipalities, 86 market town municipalities and 25 counties. The Danish Municipal Reform in 1970 resulted by law in a new local and regional structure for the whole country with two administrative levels - municipalities and counties - and thereby a change of administrative units., With the Danish Municipal Reform in 1970, the number of counties was reduced to 14 and municipalities to 277. Copenhagen Municipality (code 101) and Frederiksberg Municipality (code 147) were the only ones assigned both county and municipal tasks. After the amalgamation of the Bornholm municipalities in 2003, Bornholm's Regional Municipality (code 400) held the same special status as Copenhagen and Frederiksberg., From 1 April 1974, Sengeløse Municipality was incorporated into Høje-Taastrup Municipality (code 169) and Store Magleby Municipality was incorporated into Dragør Municipality (code 155), which reduced the total number of municipalities to 275., From 1 January 2003, Bornholm's Regional Municipality (code 400) was established by merging Allinge-Gudhjem (code 401), Hasle (code 403), Nexø (code 405), Rønne (code 407) and Aakirkeby (code 409) Municipalities and Bornholm County. The merger reduced the total number of municipalities in Denmark to 271., From 1 January 2006, Ærø Municipality (code 492) was be established by merging Marstal Municipality (code 443) and Ærøskøbing Municipality (code 493), which reduced the total number of municipalities in Denmark to 270., This classification includes Christiansø (code 411). Christiansø is not part of a municipality. Instead it is administered directly by the state through the Danish Ministry of Defence., The geographical breakdown of counties and municipalities is consistent with the Nomenclature of territorial units for statistics (, NUTS, )., Valid from: , January 1, 1970 , Valid to: , December 31, 2006 , Office: , Methodology and Analysis , Contact: , Rohan James Draper, , rjd@dst.dk, , ph. +45 21 33 89 Documentation of data

Denmark’s Data Safari, Denmark’s Data Safari is a function that allows you to explore the data that you can order via Denmark’s Data Portal. This is data documentation from Statistics Denmark’s Databank of basic data and data from other sources that you can order via Denmark’s Data Portal. You can search for registers and e.g. find information on latest reference date and next expected update. You can also search for variables and find descriptions of variables. Note that the Data safari does not give you access to data, it is simply a way for you to get an idea of the data that you can request as a user., Go to Denmark’s Data Safari, High-quality documentation, High-quality documentation is an extension of the existing documentation in Statistics Denmark, including the documentation that you can find in Denmark’s Data safari. The extension element is the inclusion of the historic dimension in the documentation for the individual variable. In the historic dimension, any data breaches and validity periods are described and the population is indicated., For relevant variables, a graph and a table are attached. The same template for documentation is used for each variable., The high-quality documentation has been prepared in collaboration between Statistics Denmark and KOR (coordinating organ for register research).
