    Child care in private kindergartens before school start

    The following statistics show the number of enrolled children and the number of employed personnel in private daycare institutions. Children and personnel are assessed as full-time equivalent. The statistics are published for the first time in the year 2022.

    Statistical presentation

    The statistics provide an annual report on the number of enrolled children and staff with educational responsibilities in private daycare institutions. Both children and staff are converted into full-time equivalents, and only pedagogical staff, such as pedagogical managers, early childhood educators, assistants, and aides, are included in the report. Children and staff in day care, pool scheme institutions, as well as municipal and self-governing daycare institutions, are not included in the statistics.

    Statistical processing

    Information on enrolled children and staff with educational responsibilities is received electronically from the municipal administrative systems and private payroll providers. Data validation is conducted, and the data may potentially be adjusted as a result of this process.

    Relevance

    The ministries use the statistics to compare municipal resource allocation for childcare and to develop policies in the area. Interest organizations, such as BUPL, KL, and FOLA, use the statistics to evaluate resource allocation and the service level in the childcare sector. The data is collected based on an agreement between Statistics Denmark and the Ministry of Children and Education.

    Accuracy and reliability

    Data primarily originates from municipal administrative systems. The accuracy may be affected by errors and omissions in the municipalities' records and the private daycare payroll data, as well as the correctness of keys used, for example, to allocate children into age groups in integrated institutions.
